How Maintenance Calories Are Estimated
A plain-language guide to BMR, activity multipliers, and why calorie targets are best treated as starting estimates.
Maintenance Is An Estimate
Maintenance calories estimate the amount of energy your body uses across normal life, training, digestion, and recovery.
Fitectra uses Mifflin-St Jeor for BMR, then multiplies that number by your selected activity level. Your real-world maintenance may be higher or lower, so tracking trends matters.
How To Use The Number
Treat the first target as a starting point for two to four weeks. If weight, measurements, energy, hunger, and workouts are not moving in the expected direction, adjust gradually.
Short-term changes are noisy. Water, sodium, stress, sleep, menstrual cycles, and training soreness can all shift scale weight.
